A Serving of Fish a Day Keeps The Doctor Away…
We always think of an apple a day keeping the doctor away, but fish can do a pretty good job at this as well. It’s no secret that in recent years, nutritionists and doctors have been telling the world that fish is GREAT for your body. However, it can be hard in our North American diet to incorporate everything we need in a day. But, fish is so amazing because it packs in a ton of nutrients in one little serving. Let’s explore why daily fish is so great for you:
Omega 3’s
Most fish are packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, which are a group of polyunsaturated fats. That’s a long definition to explain a group of fats that are vital to get somewhere else because the body can’t create them. You only get these in food, and not only that, they help improve heart health, protect against degenerative disease and reduce inflammation. They’ve even been seen to help reduce symptoms from disorders like depression. Salmon is the most commonly known fish to pack in the Omega 3’s, but other fishes like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, and albacore tuna also are extremely high in Omega 3’s as well.
Protein
Protein is one of the most vital parts of our diet and one that most people are deficient in. Protein is used to build and repair tissue in the body (which for athletes translates into building stronger muscle tissue). It also is vital in the building of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Protein helps you body out in so many ways, it’s hard to count them all. Dr. Axe has a great explanation of even more ways protein is helpful to the body on his blog. Check it out here.
Vitamins
Saltwater fish is a great sun-less source of vitamin D. For example, just one 3-ounce serving of salmon contains 75 percent of the daily recommended vitamin D. On top of that, fish are known to be full of calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and B2. And don’t forget about those Omega 3 vitamins too!
Ease
Most seafood and fish cook extremely fast, which means that you’ll spend less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying life. We are big fans of seafood and fish because they truly are so easy to cook up and give you the best bang for your buck in terms of vitamins and nutrients. If you’re going to spend the time creating a yummy meal, you might as well cook up something that’s really good FOR you too!
It’s easy in our culture to eat a bunch of empty calories. They’re empty because they don’t fill us up and they don’t have many nutrients. And then we wonder why we’re exhausted all the time! But, it’s easy to incorporate fish into your daily diet with our monthly seafood boxes. We pack in a ton of high quality, sustainable fish into an easy box that arrives at your door, making life easier and more healthy!
